Meet Shane
Shane Hatchett is a seasoned health and human services executive with deep experience in public health, Medicaid, public welfare, and project implementation. Known for being a strategic fixer and observant listener, he is passionate about using these skills to bring together diverse groups together and advance shared causes to improve outcomes.
Shane has an extensive history of public service, serving Hoosiers as the Deputy Health Commissioner and Chief of Staff at the Indiana Department of Health from 2019 to 2023, where he helped lead the 1,100-person department through the COVID-19 pandemic response and two successful budget cycles. He also guided the efforts of the Governor’s Public Health Commission, which led to the historic transformation of Indiana’s public health system through modernized public health laws and a significant infusion of state resources and was instrumental in helping connect public health resources with high-need and marginalized communities.
Before his time at Health, Shane served as the Deputy State Medicaid Director for the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, managing the division responsible for providing 1 out of 5 Hoosiers with vital health care. During his time there, he helped lead the implementation of the state’s modular Enterprise Medicaid System and achieved CMS certification.
Shane holds an M.S. in Technology with a concentration in organizational leadership from Purdue University School of Engineering and Technology and a B.S. in Public Affairs (with distinction) with a concentration in management from Indiana University’s O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Shane is a certified Project Management Professional and is currently working on his dissertation in the DrPH program at the IU Fairbanks School of Public Health.
Shane is a native Hoosier from southern Indiana and presently lives in Indianapolis with his spouse and tortoiseshell cat.
